Everyone suffers from it: Messy Closet Syndrome. Hangers full of clothes squished together so tightly you can barely tell what wardrobe items you have. Mismatched shoes littering the floor. Stacks of sheets and towels, stuff haphazardly on shelves.
Whether it's your bedroom closet that houses your entire wardrobe or your bathroom closet that holds only towels and toiletries, having unorganized closets can bring complications to your daily life. If you've been putting off that closet organization project that's on your to-do list, think about the ways having a neat closet can improve your life.
- It saves you time: Everyone is desperate for a few extra minutes in your day, and having an organized closet is a way to get them. You don't have to spend precious minutes searching for your other shoe, or for the jacket that matches the pants you're wearing. Closet systems let you easily locate items without wasting time, giving you a few extra minutes in the morning to read the paper or have another cup of coffee. And when you have an important meeting or event, that extra time can be the difference between being on time and walking in late.
- It gives you more storage: Everybody wants more closet storage. And getting your closet organized is a great way to start. It helps you to sort through any old or unused item you don't need, giving you more storage space. And having your items organized - instead of in a jumbled mish-mash - will open up shelving, floor and hanging space you might have forgotten you had.
- It lessens your stress: No matter what kind of day you've had, having any kind of mess in your home can heighten your stress and anxiety. You're more stressed in the morning, when you're running late for a meeting and looking for items. It can stress you out on the weekends, when you guiltily think of the closet organization you should be working on, but aren't. An organized closet equals a more simplified, less stressful life.
- It can save you money: When it comes to your bathroom closet, being disorganized can actually lose you money. With everything in a jumble, you can't see that extra roll of toilet paper or full bottles of shampoo. Instead, you run out to the grocery store to buy items you don't need to buy. The same applies to clothes closets - that black belt you replaced because you thought you lost it will turn up under a pile of dirty clothes. You buy a perfectly tailored white shirt, only to discover a similar one crammed in between your sweaters. By having a closet organization system, you can save yourself money, and time spent shopping.
-It can lengthen the lifespan of your clothes and accessories: The messier your closet, the more likely your items are to be damaged. Sweaters can stretch, shirts can get torn, shoes can get scuffed. At the very least, you'll suffer from perpetually wrinkled clothes. With better closet storage, everything can be stored properly without the risk of damage.
Good closet systems and closet shelving do require an initial investment of your money and time, but the end rewards you'll reap will be worth it. Closet organization means more time and less stress for you and your family.
